A Creative Writing Space for Parents + Caretakers
With Charity E. Yoro
cae· su· ra (noun): a break or pause in the flow
Join Charity E. Yoro, award-winning poet and mother of two, for a 1.5-hour connective, generative space where parent writers may attend to their whole selves—including (and especially) the unhindered, expressive parts often neglected amid day-to-day caretaking responsibilities.
We will explore the complexities, constraints, and collective triumphs as parent writers through a variety of reading, writing, and light movement practices. Here, one’s unseen labor, deep yearning, hidden rage (and/or whatever else surfaces) is welcomed, held, and honored.
The co-created experience will open with mindful meditation and include space for collaborative art-making, short readings & writing prompts on the theme, followed by group discussion and optional sharing. A range of mediums—including collage, spoken word, and visual art—will be introduced/utilized.
Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite journal and writing utensil, if preferred. Loose paper, printed handouts, and other supplies will be provided. All levels of writers identifying as parents are welcome at this in-person gathering.
Charity E. Yoro is an award-winning author, dynamic creative producer, seasoned educator & facilitator, and marketing maven. Born, raised, and educated on the east side of O‘ahu, she currently lives west of Denver with her wild, loving family.
