Returning to the Self: An Authentic Movement Workshop
With Isi Owens from Ardent Grove
Friday, October 23
6:00pm - 8:00pm
For adults

Two hours to slow down and listen to what your body already knows.

We are living in worlds that demand so much of our attention and energy, and often pull us away from ourselves. This 2-hour Authentic Movement workshop invites you to return to yourself and reconnect with your body's inner wisdom of resource and healing.

Through this practice, you will explore how to more deeply listen to your inner world, tend to your needs, and experience what it feels like to be present in your body.

What is Authentic Movement?
Authentic Movement is a self-guided practice held between a mover and a witness. During the practice, the mover (or movers) engage in self-guided movement with their eyes closed, often in silence, for a predetermined amount of time. The witness sits to the side, gently holding space and bringing compassionate, non-judgmental awareness to the mover.
The mover's only job is to listen to their own internal impulses to move. There is no one way, or right way, to move. This isn't about performance or aesthetics. It's about developing a deep listening to your own internal world, and by doing so, deepening your relationship with the Self.
Authentic Movement, as it is practiced today, was developed by Dance/Movement Therapists Mary Starks Whitehouse and Janet Adler.
