ABOUT SPACE

space is a family wellness and creative studio that is a licensed school-aged childcare center in Wheat Ridge, CO. We believe creativity is a form of care and that children thrive when they have space to make, move, feel, and connect. Our camp programming Little Wellness Retreats brings together art, yoga, sound bath, mindfulness, and community in a deeply intentional way. We are growing our programming year-round and are looking for a dedicated Camp Director to grow with us.

 

WHAT WE'RE BUILDING

We are expanding beyond our summer multi-week sessions to include no-school day camps for two local school districts, holiday camps, and  beginning summer 2027, daily camp programming. We are looking for a dedicated Program Director who will serve as the anchor of our camp team across all formats, all year. This is a role with real longevity, we want someone who sees space as a long-term professional home, not just a seasonal gig.

 

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Program Director is the on-site lead for all space camp programming (Little Wellness Retreats). This person is responsible for day-to-day operations, staff supervision, compliance with CDEC SACC licensing requirements, and the overall safety and wellbeing of every child in our care. The Little Wellness Program Director works closely with the co-owners and is the primary point of contact for all on-site decisions during programming hours.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as the on-site licensed Program Director for space's SACC Building-Based Day Camp across all programming formats

• Be present on site a minimum of 60% of each operating day as required by CDEC licensing rules

• Supervise all Program Leaders, Program Aides, and potential volunteers during camp programming

• Implement the daily schedule and programming plan developed by space co-owners, including morning circle, wall painting, art projects, yoga, sound bath, outside time, games, journaling, and closing circle

• Maintain required staff-to-child ratios at all times (1:15 for school-age children)

• Manage daily sign-in and sign-out, verify authorized pickup adults, and maintain attendance records

• Conduct or oversee daily health checks at drop-off - noting any signs of illness, injury, or behavioral change

• Communicate with families as needed throughout the day,  including same-day notification of any incident or concern

• Respond to and document all incidents, accident and emergencies 

• Participate in pre-camp training and orientation for new Program Leaders and Aides

• Work with co-owners to adapt programming across formats - a no-school day camp has a different energy than a week-long session and the Director helps calibrate accordingly

• Maintain confidentiality of all child and family records per CDEC requirements

 

YOU'RE A GREAT FIT IF...

• Have experience leading licensed child care, camp, or after-school programs - you know what compliance looks like in practice, not just on paper

• Have experience with social-emotional learning in a youth context

• Are warm, calm, and decisive -  you can hold a room of 25 kids and also handle an unexpected situation without losing your composure

• Are highly organized, you don't drop details, you communicate proactively

• Genuinely love being around children and it shows, kids feel safe with you quickly

• Are comfortable adapting, a one-day no-school camp looks different from week three of summer. You read the room and adjust.

• Are looking for a role with real staying power, we want someone who grows with us, not someone who's here for one summer

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 21 years of age. Must meet at least one of the following:

 

Option A: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree with a major in Child Development, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Family Studies, Human Services, Recreation, Outdoor Education, or related field

Option B: Associate's degree or 60 semester credit hours, plus at least 3 months (455 hours) of verified experience supervising 4+ unrelated children over age 4

Option C: 21 months (3,185 hours) of verified supervisory experience with 4+ unrelated children over age 4, plus 6 semester hours of relevant coursework or 40 clock hours of applicable training

Option D: Current Early Childhood Professional Credential (ECPC) Level II or higher, version 3.0

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (Adult, Child, and Infant/Pediatric)

• Completion of Colorado Medication Administration Training (MAT) Parts 1, 2, and 3, including Part 3 delegation or willingness to complete before first day

• Mandated reporter training (can be completed online)

• Ability to pass a Colorado CDEC background check

• Registered or willing to register in Colorado Shines PDIS

 

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

• Familiarity with yoga, mindfulness and/or sound baths 

• Experience managing a small staff team or roster
